The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, honoured a Maritime guru, Dr. Rafiu Olalere Ladipo, President-General of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club, with lifetime Excellence Award, named him also the Patron of the Association.
The well-attended ceremony held in Lagos had in attendance members and executives of CONMMEP as well as key maritime stakeholders.
Speaking on the choice, CONMMEP President, *Comrade Udo Onyeka*, described Dr. Ladipo as a man of many parts, as evidenced by his rich citation. He said Ladipo's achievements in the maritime industry and his legendary contributions to sports development in Nigeria make him a national asset of inestimable value to the Association.
Onyeka urged the new Patron to deploy his good offices, vast contacts and wealth of experience to add greater value to the activities of CONMMEP, noting that even before his appointment, he had been of immense assistance to the Association.
In his response, Dr. Ladipo said that among the numerous awards and recognitions he has received from various sectors of the economy, the CONMMEP honour remains particularly dear to him.
He pledged to deploy all his contacts and goodwill to elevate the Association beyond its current status, assuring that the promise is anchored on his proven track record in other sectors, which he intends to replicate in service as Patron.
"I will connect the Association with all relevant stakeholders that matter in society and take CONMMEP to places that will earn it international recognition in the months ahead," Dr. Ladipo assured.
He thanked the leadership and members of CONMMEP for the confidence reposed in him, praying that the unveiling will mark the beginning of greater things he will attract to the Association.
He further promised to host a more elaborate and robust reception for members and executives of CONMMEP, his friends and well-wishers.
