Tincan Customs Command, NDLEA Intercepts 55 Bags Of Loud Worth N4.7bn

  


The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Tincan Island Command, has intercepted a ₦4.7 billion cannabis shipment following an intensive physical examination 

On January 28, 2026, officers discovered 55 jumbo bags of Cannabis Indica concealed inside three used vehicles — a Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Sienna, and Toyota Matrix.

The contraband comprised 2,366 compressed packages weighing a total of 1,183 kilograms.

In addition to the drugs, a Colt MK IV / Series 70 .45 automatic pistol with an empty magazine was recovered. 

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the seizure.


Comptroller Frank Onyeka, Customs Area Controller, confirmed the operation was conducted in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Department of State Services (DSS). He commended the Comptroller-General of Customs for strengthening inter-agency cooperation and operational effectiveness.

The seized narcotics will be handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution, while the firearm will be transferred to the appropriate security agency. 

The NCS reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking and assured the public of sustained vigilance across all ports of entry.
