Tin Can Island Port Wins Best Port Administration Award At MIMA 2026

 



The Port Manager of Tin Can Island Port, Dr. Abubarkar Sani Isa,  has been honoured with the Best Port Administration Award at the prestigious Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA), in recognition of outstanding leadership, operational efficiency, and transformative reforms in port management.

The award, presented at a well-attended ceremony at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, celebrates excellence across Nigeria’s maritime sector and recognizes individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to the growth and modernization of the industry.

The organizers of MIMA 2026  announcing the award  commended the Tin Can Island Port Manager, Dr. Sani Isa for driving notable improvements in cargo handling efficiency, stakeholder engagement, and infrastructure optimization. 


According to the award committee, the port has witnessed increased turnaround time for vessels, enhanced safety standards, and improved collaboration with government agencies and private sector operators under the manager’s leadership.

During the award presentation by the Chairman of the Board of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr. Taiwo Mustapha, he commended Dr. Isa  for his pragmatic leadership and urged him to continue with the same tempo to achieve greater heights.

Alhaji Mustapha said he was impressed with the turnout of well-wishers who turned up at the podium during the award presentation, noting that he had never witnessed such public displays of love and affection for a public servant.


Speaking after receiving the award, the Port Manager, Dr. Abubarkar Sani Isa,  expressed gratitude to the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority, port stakeholders, and the entire workforce at Tin Can Island Port for their collective efforts.

“This recognition is not just for me, but for the entire team whose dedication and resilience have made these achievements possible. We remain committed to deepening reforms, improving service delivery, and positioning Tin Can Island Port as a hub of excellence in maritime operations,” the Port Manager said.

Industry stakeholders at the event described the recognition as well-deserved, noting that Tin Can Island Port has become a benchmark for operational excellence within Nigeria’s port system. They also highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at digitization, reduction of bottlenecks, and improved cargo clearance processes.


The Maritime Industry Merit Awards convened by Elder Asu Beks, CEO, Maritime Media Ltd, continues to serve as a platform for acknowledging innovation, professionalism, and leadership within Nigeria’s maritime ecosystem, encouraging healthy competition and continuous improvement across the sector.

The latest accolade further reinforces Tin Can Island Port’s growing reputation as a key driver of maritime trade and economic development in Nigeria.
