The Ogun I Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), under the leadership of Deputy Comptroller O. O. Afeni, has recorded major victories in its fight against smuggling and illegal trade, while simultaneously driving export growth.
In two intelligence‑led operations on March 19 and 24, 2026, officers intercepted 1,202 kegs of smuggled vegetable oil worth ₦224.9 million.
This follows earlier seizures of 2,539 kegs on March 11, 2026, and 2,090 kegs on December 16, 2025.
These decisive actions protect local producers, curb unfair competition, and safeguard domestic jobs.
In a show of inter‑agency collaboration, the Command handed over 285 sacks of mica stones (50kg each) valued at ₦104.8 million to the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development.
The minerals were intercepted during routine anti‑smuggling patrols, preventing illegal exportation that undermines national revenue.
Assistant Comptroller E. K. Onyeasor, representing DC Afeni, stressed that the Command remains “an impenetrable wall against the illicit outflow of our national wealth.”
The Command also reported a sharp rise in export activity. In March 2026 it recorded 277.8 metric tonnes, with FOB value of $383,100 as against 20 metric tonnes, with FOB value of $104,600 recorded in March last year.
This represents a 266% increase in export value year‑on‑year, driven by enhanced processing capacity and streamlined trade procedures.
This achievement highlights the Command’s continuous success in monitoring the Idiroko border axis and surrounding creeks, ensuring that all exit points are fortified against the smuggling of both contraband goods and protected natural resource.
