Oyo/Osun Command Exceeds Revenue Targets Despite Challenges

The Oyo/Osun Command of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS), has reported impressive performance in revenue generation, surpassing its target for 2025 by generating over N99 billion, significantly exceeding the anticipated N86 billion. This achievement results in a surplus of N13 billion, reflecting the Command's commitment to improving operations and revenue collection.

Deputy Comptroller of the command,  Wale Moses Adewole in a move to elevate performance further, announced a revenue target of N137 billion for 2026. He expressed confidence that the Command would not only meet this ambitious goal but also exceed it.  Adewole  attributes his optimism to the establishment of a tactical and strategic enforcement special team, which has been deployed, particularly during nighttime operations, to combat illicit trading effectively.

"The reward of hard work is more work," Adewole stated, emphasizing the necessity of sustained effort in tackling smuggling and other illegal activities. His leadership is characterized by a deep understanding of the complexities within the Oyo/Osun region, supported by a solid enforcement background that equips him to identify and neutralize criminal elements operating in the area.

The Command's operational effectiveness has been enhanced through improved cooperation with other agencies and positive relations with traditional leaders in host communities.

Recognizing the importance of collaboration, the Oyo/Osun Controller has worked diligently to foster these relationships, contributing to a more integrated approach to law enforcement.

Highlighting recent successes, Adewole noted significant seizures that have disrupted smuggler operations and caused distress among those engaged in illegal trade. However, challenges remain, particularly in terms of manpower.

The Deputy Comptroller acknowledged this issue but reassured that the Comptroller General of Customs, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, is proactively addressing the situation with plans for recruitment.

As the Oyo/Osun Command positions itself for the year ahead, the message to smugglers is clear: the Command is prepared and vigilant, ready to take action against illegal activities that threaten economic integrity.

With a well-equipped team and a strategic vision, the Oyo/Osun Command aims to fortify its role in safeguarding Nigeria's borders and enhancing revenue generation for the government.
