Customs Intercepts 25kg Cocaine Worth ₦1bn at Seme Border

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against narcotics trafficking, intercepting 25 kilograms of cocaine valued at over ₦1 billion along the Seme border corridor.

The seizure was made on February 10, 2026, after operatives intercepted a Toyota Highlander conveying 22 packages of suspected cocaine.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this on Friday during the formal handover of the seized consignment to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Ikeja, Lagos.

According to Adeniyi, the successful operation was a direct outcome of intelligence-driven enforcement carried out under the leadership of the Seme Area Comptroller, Wale Adenuga.

The illicit cargo weighed a total of 25 kilograms, and one suspect was arrested in connection with the seizure. The Customs boss commended the professionalism and vigilance of the officers involved, noting that the seizure underscores the Service’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s borders against the trafficking of narcotics and other prohibited items.

The NCS has handed over the suspected cocaine, the vehicle used for conveyance, and the arrested suspect to the NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command for further investigation and prosecution.

This seizure highlights the strengthened inter-agency cooperation between NCS and NDLEA in combating drug trafficking through intelligence sharing and joint operations.
