The Nigerian Maritime Pilots Association (NMPA), has extended their warmest congratulatory message to their colleagues as the association marked their 20th anniversary.
In his congratulatory message at the 20th anniversary of the association which was marked nationwide today 31st October, 2025, the National Chairman of NMPA, Pilot Mohammed U. Bida said that this year historic milestone marks two decades of professionalism, courage, and unwavering commitment to the safe navigation of vessels within our nation’s territorial waters.
The National Chairman, NMPA, Pilot Mohammed Bida.In his words,"Over the years, NPA Maritime Pilots have distinguished themselves as true custodians of maritime excellence, ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient movement of ships that drive Nigeria’s economic growth.
According to Pilot Bida,"We were employed on the 31st of October, 2005, when the NPA Management made the visionary decision to recruit young graduates of Nautical Science (Navigators) to transform the face of pilotage in Nigeria".
"This initiative was aimed at positioning the Authority to compete globally by adopting a modern pilotage system aligned with international best practices. Our journey has not been without challenges, yet your dedication, teamwork, and resilience have remained the bedrock of our collective success".
Pilot Bida stated that each Pilot’s contribution from Lagos to Bonny, Warri to Calabar, and across all pilotage districts, has strengthened the reputation of their profession and inspired younger generations to pursue excellence.
"As we celebrate this 20- years milestone today , I encourage every member to reflect on how far we have come and to renew our commitment to the values that define us, safety, integrity, competence, and service to the nation.
Continuing, "This anniversary also reminds us that our achievements in safe pilotage operations would not have been possible without the steadfast support and commitment of the NPA Management, which has consistently prioritized our training and retraining. Their dedication to providing us with world-class professional development, in line with international standards, has been instrumental to our growth and operational excellence.
He said that among the 2005 set of Marine Pilots, many have now attained the rank of Master Mariners, while others serve as Senior Pilots.
Pilot Bida commended the NPA Management for the vision, investment and their commitment that made them what they are today. He also appreciated the efforts and dedications of both past and present Management teams for a job well done, as he prayed for progress, safety and distinction for all the NPA Maritime Pilots.
