Clarion Shipping West Africa Ltd, a home-grown shipping outfit, recently unveiled their first indigenous container vessel, MV OCEAN DRAGON
The Managing Director and Coordinator, ‘Save Nigeria Freight Forwarders, Importers and Exporters Coalition, (SNFFIEC), Chief Patrick Osita Chukwu while briefing journalist in his Apapa office recently in Lagos, after a 'Road Show' under a heavy downpour, led by members of the association, journalists and some top management staff of the liner, said the road show was conducted to promote the indigenous shipping company.
According to Chief Osita, the MV Ocean Dragon, with a capacity of 349 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), is set to revolutionize Nigeria’s maritime industry by providing a reliable alternative to road transport, reducing congestion, and increasing efficiency.
MV OCEAN DRAGON will operate across West Africa, connecting ports in Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Egypt, South Africa, amongst others
Sir Chukwu called on the maritime community to patronize and support indigenous shipping operators in Nigeria for existing advantages and benefits, adding that Clarion Shipping West Africa Limited has the capacity to bridge the gap in the logistics supply chain
Speaking on numerous benefits of this indigenous vessel to Nigerians, Solomon Ogudo, Clarion Shipping’s Regional Manager, South-east Nigeria, said one gets incentives of having $500 on every 40 footer container that you book with them and $300 on every 20 footer container booked with them”.that delays in cargo clearing will be cut by as much as 4 to 6 days. Again, he noted that there is no repatriation of funds to any other country as this is a wholly Nigerian owned company.
According to Ogudo, the unveiling of the vessel operation to Nigerians is to Create jobs opportunities, Support local investment, reduce dependence on foreign shipping lines, Foster a more self-sufficient maritime industry, Promote intra-African trade and support the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) initiative
"The initiative also geared towards solving most of the myriad of problems in the movement of cargoes within the country and the West African region” Ogudo concluded
