Customs FOU zone 'A' intercepts 2 Industrial Drones, 15 Firearms, 4,841 Ammunition, Others Along Ogun, Ondo State

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone A, Ikeja of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has made a significant seizure of smuggled items in Lagos. The intercepted items include ammunition, automatic firearms, short guns, live ammunition, sacks of clothes, and smuggled pharmaceutical products.

Addressing journalists at the Unit’s Headquarters in Lagos on Tuesday, 2 September 2025, the customs  Area Controller of the unit, Comptroller MS Shuaibu noted  that the seizure was carried out in a coordinated enforcement operation, after the unit received an intelligence report.

The Comptroller emphasized that the seizure underscores the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Customs Service to combat smuggling and protect the country’s borders.

He noted that the unit’s efforts are yielding positive results, and they will continue to work tirelessly to prevent smuggling activities in the country.

The patrol team moved to arrest the suspected smugglers, who later abandoned their vehicle to evade arrest.

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the seized items.

Shuaibu said the seizures, with a duty paid value of ₦377.1 million, were made possible through intelligence-led enforcement operations. He stressed that the importation of arms, ammunition, or drones without approval and permits from the National Security Adviser constitutes a grave threat to national security.

He  warned that arms and drones of such nature can only be imported with clearance and an End User Certificate from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA). Any attempt to bypass this, he stressed, would be treated as a threat to national security.

Comptroller Shuaibu on behalf of  Comptroller General of customs, handed over the intercepted items to the National centre for the control of large weapons for further investigation and prosecution as he  urged Nigerians to report suspicious movements of people in their environment .

The Comptroller praised his officers for their bravery, noting that such operations require both courage and precision. “Our men risk their lives daily to protect this country. They deserve recognition for their sacrifices,” he said.
